Synopsis: Phoenix, who has served a long prison sentence, faces an uncertain future as he prepares to hit the road. His cellmate offers Phoenix a job - but it's as a murderer for hire to kill the ex-lawman who put the cellmate away. Phoenix travels to the lawman's small ranch and gets hired as a hand, where he meets the old man and his young wife. Phoenix eventually comes to the conclusion that he can't bring himself to kill the man. Unfortunately, that's just what the cellmate expected - and wants. He kills a guard, breaks out of jail and goes after the lawman himself.
