Synopsis: Carrie, the widow of a rancher, never liked life on the prairie and has always hungered to travel to "the far places." She insists that her only son leave Dodge for Chicago. He does, but soon returns, saying that the life of a rancher is the only one he wants. He's also ready to settle down on the land with a local girl, a plan his mother is desperate to thwart. She invites the girl to her home in her son's absence, with a large sum of money ready to buy the girl off--and if that doesn't work, she also has a gun.
