	Synopsis: Professor Ronald Hewes teaches English at Euclid College and an exercise in observation, has someone he's hired burst into his creative class and shoot him with a gun loaded with blanks. The students are quickly calmed but when he returns to his office, the fake gunmen tells him that had he fired a second shot, he would most certainly would have been killed as someone had put in a clip with live bullets. He's separated from his wife Laura who is supposed to be out of town. Hewes is accused by Sally Sheldon of having stolen the manuscript for his best selling novel from her dead sister who died from a sleeping pill overdose after learning she was pregnant. In fact Sally wrote the story for her dead sister which describes the decadent life on a college campus. Hewes learns Laura is staying with friends Dr. Curtis and Esther Metcalfe so they agree to meet at the Metcalfe home.
